Magdalena Bogenschutz emigrated from Munich, Germany to Brooklyn, NY in the 1880s, and she brought her handwritten cookbook.

Contains 180 recipes including Sauerbraten, Huhn mit Paprika (chicken paprika), Rehragout (venizon stew), Leberspätzlsuppe (liver and noodles soup), Ochsenshcweifsuppe (oxtail soup), Kirschkuchen, Cremetorte, Muerbteig (pastry), Schwartzbrot Torte (blackbread cake), and Schneeberg (baked almond cream).
